Aquaman Movie Review

SPOILER ALERT

I wouldn't have watched this movie if not for my husband. He insisted that we should watch it so yesterday we did. As soon as the theaters changed program, he immediately told me that Aquaman is now showing. We were supposed to watch it at 12 noon, however we were delayed because of some circumstances so we opted to watch it at 1 pm. We watched at SM uptown CDO. We had lunch first at Mang Inasal. Then as soon as we were done, up the escalator we went.

So here's my review. It was amazing! The graphics were so believable! I laughed because there were funny moments. I cried because there were teary moments. I was shocked because there were a lot of shocking moments as well. Aquaman is one of the DC comic superheroes. He is also one of the justice league. In the Justice League movie, he was there alongside Superman, Wonderwoman, Batman, the Flash and Cyborg.

Aquaman is played by Jason Momoa of Game of Thrones fame. He played Khal Drogo in GOT opposite Daenerys Stormborn. The role of Aquaman really fits him to a T.  He has a big body and very strong. I like the scene in the submarine where he just throws down the pirates. One of the pirates hated him because Aquaman let his father die. This pirate got Atlantean technology from King Orm because he wanted to show one of the Kings of Atlantis that surface people were destroying their Kingdom and get his support to attack the surface.

This is Princess Mera, the daughter of King Darius, King of one of the Kingdoms in Atlantis. She went to the surface to ask Arthur to go home to Atlantis and claim his rightful place. She has power to control water. She is also very strong. She is played by Amber Heard. I admire her as an actress and she's also very pretty although there were some scenes where she appeared old.

I read a story on the web that says that Arthur and Mera are married. In the movie, they fell in love. Yey!

Nicole Kidman plays Atlanna, the queen of Atlantis who fled to the surface and met the lighthouse keeper Tom Curry off the coast of Maine. They fell in love and she bore a son. They named him Arthur. Arthur is Aquaman and the King of Atlantis. Atlanna fled to the surface because she didn't want to marry the merman her father picked for her. When Arthur was still a toddler, her father wanted her to return to Atlantis. So she decided to go home, however she was thrown in the trench where no one could survive but she survived. Arthur went to the Kingdom of the Trench because that is where the trident was located.

This is the villain in the movie played by Paul Wilson. He plays King Orm, the half brother of Arthur. He is the son of Atlanna to the Atlantean she was promised to. He played it very well. What is the conflict in the movie? King Orm wanted to declare war to the surface people because they pollute the oceans. He was going around asking the other Kings to join him. King of the Fishermen didn't want to join him and King Orm killed him right in front of his fishqueen and fishdaughter.

The underwater war scene was so awesome. When all sea creatures refused to attack Aquaman, it was very spectacular. Aquaman rode this huge crablike creature called the Kraken from under the ocean floor.
And King Orm was defeated. He urged Aquaman to kill him but Arthur did not oblige. He just said, "We'll talk when you're ready." At this point he acted so Kingly.
So peace was established. No more attack on the surface people.
I love a movie with a happy ending.

Don't leave the theater yet because there's a post credit scene showing that the pirate survived his encounter with Aquaman and vowed to find him.

Mortal Engines

I haven't heard of this movie but after watching it last night. Wow! It was amazing. It was set 3000 years into the future of civilization. Cities were on wheels. What's amazing was that Peter Jackson is the co-writer/producer of this film. He was of the Lord of the Rings fame, one of my favorite movie series of all time. So back to mortal engines. It made me cry. The scene where the resurrected died because he realized that Hester was inlove. It was heartbreaking. The actors were not famous though I've seen them star in some movies. I think you are missing a lot if you haven't watched this movie. The graphics were great. It was s believable. The scenery was breathtaking. Kudos to the animators and artists behind the scenes. The movie was based on a book of the same title by British author Philip Reeve.

Watch the trailer.

Crazy Rich Asians

SPOILER ALERT!

This movie was very refreshing. It was funny. I was entertained. The setting was in Singapore so the sights are familiar to me. I was like, "Ah, I went there." The actors were very believable. I like Astrid. She portrays, the lead actor's sister. She exudes femininity to a T. She is also very strong. Her husband in the movie is stupid. He feels insignificant with Astrid.

Rachel Chu, played by Constance Wu was very funny. She was perfect for her role. The opulence shown in the movie shocked me. The scene which was most extraordinary for me was the wedding of Nick Young's best friend. Water flowing on the aisle was magical. It was awesome.

I highly recommend this movie to everybody.  I must mention the mahjong scene when Rachel told Nick's mother that she(Michelle Yeoh) will remember her because she was the one who gave way and that she(Nick's mom) will be thankful to her but that Nick will resent her(Nick's mom) for the rest of his life.

This movie was not only funny but a tearjerker too. I cried buckets when Nick came inside the plane which Nick's family owned? and asked Rachelle to marry him.

What are you waiting for? Watch Crazy Rich Asians and you will enjoy it.

Vince & Kath & James

This movie was unexpected. Didn't expect to get much juice. But. But I was surprised. For a "Tagalog" movie to touch me so deeply. I shed tears. LOL. When Kath, Julia Baretto cried when her dad returned home and she cried to Vince, Joshua Garcia. When Joshua was dismissed by his mom when he visited the "sisigan" resto. Ahhhh. There were a lot of scenes in the movie that made me shed a tear or two.

I like the scene below. Where Vince was the substitute date of Kath. She was supposed to go on a date with her new bf James played by Ronnie Alonte. James set up a projector screen and so they could watch a movie. Vince helped because he was the one texting Kath not James. Vince knew Kath's favorite movie. It was also his favorite movie. Got 2 believe. It was so cute because they knew the lines of the movie. There was a point where they were fighting over the remote control and they looked into each other's eyes and ahhhh. There was something there and they were so believable.

Kudos to the director. I seldom like Filipino movies. This was definitely one of the few exceptions.

The actors were great too. I would love to see another Filipino movie. I give this movie 4 stars because there were some scenes which were so predictable.

VICTORIA'S SECRET FASHION SHOW 2015

It's been a long time coming. I was swamped with work that I set aside blogging about this. If you can remember, I blogged about VS fashion show 2014. Now a new model was the focus of attention. Kendall Jenner, daughter of Kris Jenner and Bruce Jenner (now Caitlyn Jenner). Both of them were present and the camera focused on them when Kendall walked the runway. She and best friend Gigi Hadid were among the new VS angels. The concept of the fashion show in 2014 was different because in 2015 the models shared stories about themselves. How the new models were told they were to become angels was also shown.

The picture above shows Gigi Hadid modeling for the VS executives.

Gigi Hadid without makeup being interviewed about being selected as a VS angel.

This time she had makeup and she looks great. In this part, they were on their way to first day of rehearsals.

Then the both of them showed the empire state building with VS colors. The show was held in NY city by the way. Pictures of Gigi and Kendall modeling are shown below.

The picture above shows the models in VS lingerie. The models admitted that they worked hard to achieve having a fit body. They work out everyday which reminds me that I should work out even if I'm not a model. They said that you feel good after exercising.

Some stunning VS lingerie are shown below.

Behati Prinsloo, wife of Adam Levine is shown below.

The artists who sang songs in the show were Selena Gomez, The Weekend, and            Ellie Goulding.

The fantasy bra was worn by Lily Aldridge shown below. She was 29 years old when she wore it.

Here's a clearer photo of the fantasy bra. It has a lot of precious stones on it and it was heavily guarded.

Now the fashion show won't be complete without a class picture which is shown below.

VS fashion show 2016 is going to be next month so I can't wait to watch it.

Doctor Strange

Spoiler Alert!

This movie was great. I liked it. Insert heart, heart, heart here. The story was very interesting. He developed his inherent power. He can manipulate time. I admire his character because he is very smart. He was able to conquer the villain in the movie. I thought that was it. They will be defeated. Surprise, surprise. Due to his intelligence and wit, he was able to overcome the villain. A usurper of worlds. Doctor strange manipulated time such that, he kept rewinding what has happened with the knowledge of said villain. So the villain was irritated. Doctor Strange put into the villain's mind that he is Dr. Strange's prisoner because he kept repeating the part where the villain killed him. However he comes alive again and repeating the process over and over again. So the villain bargained with Doctor Strange played by Benedict Cumberbatch. The villain is Eternity.

Doctor Strange told Eternity what he wanted. He wanted it to take Kaecilius into its world, leave earth and never come back. Kaecilius is a sorcerer who wanted more power. He went to the dark side and used dark magic. He left the group of sorcerers. He destroyed the time loop in Hongkong. However, Doctor Strange used the eye (a magic stone) to rewind the time so Hongkong is not destroyed.

The special effects were great especially the part where buildings were folding over just like "Inception". What was lacking was more of these. I found it lacking.

There was a funny part. The part when Doctor Strange found his cape. The cape seems to have a mind of its own. It helped Doctor Strange fight his enemies. Then there was also a time when he fixed his cape at the neck, the cape kept touching his face. Doctor Strange said "Stop it". That was funny.

Kaecilius, another villain in the movie shown below.

Eternity shown below.

The sorcerer supreme or the ancient one played by Tilda Swinton was killed in the movie.

She was supposed to be a male Tibetan monk as depicted in the comics.

There was a scene after the credits which showed Doctor Strange talking to Thor. Thor was drinking a large mug of beer. The mug kept refilling even if Thor already finished the beer. Doctor Strange must have used his rewinding power again. In this scene, Thor was asking Doctor Strange for help in looking for his father Odin. I'm assuming this was for the sequel. I can't wait for the next one. I rate this movie 4 stars.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

Spoiler Alert!

This is the movie adaptation from the book with the same title shown below.

I watched it last Saturday via online streaming. It was amazing. The movie's story had me glued to my laptop. I couldn't stop watching. At first, I was afraid because the grandpa was killed by a hollow, no eyes. It was horrifying. However, I got over my fear. I was overcome by the amazing story line, gorgeous special effects and cute lead actor. Asa Butterfield has grown up. He's cute.

I like the story's backdrop. September 3, 1943. Cairnholm Island near Wales. The children did not grow old. They are in a time loop because Miss Peregrine created one during this date due to a bomb being dropped by the enemy.

There was a part where I shed a few tears because Miss Peregrine had to sacrifice herself for the safety of the children. She turned into a Peregrine falcon and entered a cage to be carried by the villain, Baron (played by Samuel L. Jackson) to Blackpool. He was going to conduct an experiment to make him and his kind immortal using the Ymbrynes. Miss Peregrine is an Ymbryne. Baron is a wight. He disguised himself as Jacob Portman's Psychiatrist Dr. Golan. Jacob or Jake played by Asa Butterfield embarked on this adventure because he was told by his grandfather about an island where a Miss Peregrine cares for peculiar children.

There was a scene where Emma took Jake to her underwater secret place. It was amazing. It was a sunken ship during the war. Since her power is to control the air, she blew the water from the inside of the ship so there was air to breathe. I like this part very much.

The part where they defeated the hollowgasts was also something that I liked. Another one is where the children helped each other to defeat the wights. The other hollowgasts with human forms. The twins' power turned one of the wights to stone, she fell and broke into pieces. Wow.

You should watch this movie. You will miss out if you don't. I rate this movie 5 stars. Below are some pictures from the movie.

The picture below are the kids getting ready to fight a hollowgast.

The picture below is that of a hollowgast or hollow. It eats the eyes of peculiar children.

The picture below is Baron. The peculiar wight evil villain in the movie.

The picture below shows one of my favorite scenes from the movie.
