The Avengers Movie Review

Warning: Spoiler Alert

I watched The Avengers last night at SM Cinema CDO City in 3D. I was so excited and rightly so because the next showing time was at 6 pm and we bought tickets at 5:20. Haha. I was with my husband and I had fun watching the movie. We had fun. The movie indeed deserved all the hype. It was a great movie. It could become a classic. It even outshone my favorite movie of all time. Transformers the first installment. Although I know that the avengers are supposed to be comprised of more than six members, this particular avengers movie is composed of Captain America played by Chris Evans, Thor played by Chris Helmsworth, Bruce Banner/Hulk played by Mark Ruffalo, Iron Man played by Robert Downey Jr., Hawkeye played by Jeremy Renner and Black Widow played by Scarlett Johansson. They all portrayed their parts well mind you under the direction of Joss Whedon who is famous for Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Let me start with Captain America. The leader of the group I think. He was still alive even though he was in ice for how many years. He was recruited by Nick Fury of SHIELD which originally stood for Supreme Headquarters, International Espionage, Law-Enforcement Division.
He is very serious. No hint of a funny bone at all. He demonstrated his leadership quality in the climax of the movie when he gave orders to the chief of police. He also gave instructions to the other members of the avengers. He's cute.
Thor. A hunk. He fought his adopted brother Loki in the movie. There was a funny moment when the other members of the avengers insisted that Loki was out of his mind and Thor mentioned that Loki was adopted. I laughed at that.

Next is the incredible hulk. Bruce Banner. Agent Romanova a.k.a. the Black Widow was tasked to convince him to join the avengers coz the fate of the world was at stake. What's funny was that the hut where they were located was surrounded by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents with guns pointed. Haha. I laughed at that.

I remember a moment when the Hulk wreaked havoc on SHIELD's state of the art aircraft cum battleship. And he was shot at by a soldier on a jet plane. He jumped on the plane and destroyed it. He then fell down and landed on an abandoned farmhouse? According to the old policeman who found him, he was butt naked. Go figure. It was pretty funny to me.
I like the black widow because she's smart, fights really well and she's not afraid like being hurled by Captain America to an alien's aircraft. She threw two aliens down and rode the third to navigate the craft. Brilliant, just brilliant. She's also a good actress like when she interrogated Loki and pretended that she was interested in finding Hawkeye in order to repay a debt. Loki bought her pretension. I would never have guessed it. Just Brilliant.

Now onto iron man. He was the funniest superhero in the movie. That's my opinion my dear readers. I found it funny when he tried to release the hulk by poking Dr. Bruce Banner with a pointy thing. Haha. He delivered  the moment effortlessly. He fought with Thor at first and when Thor's hammer hit Captain America's shield, wham! I was practically blown away. The fight sequence was totally out of this world. Great visual effects. Kudos to whoever's behind the great visual effects. Iron man is a billionaire, playboy, philanthropist. This guy's awesome. He was the one who flew with the nuclear weapon, redirecting it through the portal to the enemy's mothership destroying it in the process. I held my breath when he lost consciousness and fell through the closing portal back to earth. The part where he was thrown by Loki through the window and he fell from his own tower but he remotely released his iron man suit and it followed him down and then he wore his suit in midair. Remarkable. Or the part when he landed on his penthouse and each part of his suit was removed while he was walking into his penthouse after activating green energy to power his tower. What a phenomenal  movie.

Hawkeye meanwhile started out as a good guy. Then when Loki used the Tesseract to emerge in our world, he turned Agent Barton a.k.a. Hawkeye to work for him. Loki had a scepter that has the same material as the Tesseract. He also turned a doctor to build him a device that opens a portal through which a horde of alien forces can go through to conquer the earth. Hawkeye led some rogue agents to steal iridium which was needed to build the device. He's a skilled archer. He shot an arrow loaded with explosives to the SHIELD aircraft. He then proceeded inside to rescue Loki who was captured by the avengers during the steal. He fought with the Black Widow who gave him a severe blow to the head such that it broke the spell that Loki had over him. From then on, he fought with the avengers.

Every great movie has always something to do with the superheroes' nemesis. Loki, the adopted brother of Thor is this movie's villain. At first I thought, aaahh, he's just like a spoiled brat. But at second glance he's got substance after all. Thor attempted to win him over but to no avail. Tom Hiddleton plays Loki. He fit the part perfectly. I loved it when he commanded the people to kneel before him because he's a god. Talk about having a superiority complex.

He wants to command the people with power but as we all know that doesn't work in our world. A lol moment was when he was slammed by the Hulk on the floor of Stark tower's penthouse. I mean literally slammed left and right like a rag doll. He kept insisting he's a god. Haha, a god who can be slammed? Are you kidding me? It was quite funny. Joss Whedon rocks!

I almost forgot Nick Fury. The man behind the avengers. He was the one made the group into a team. He always thought that there would come a time that beings from other worlds would come to earth and attack it. That was when Thor landed in Mexico. He is also a brilliant man. Imagine commanding a state of the art ship with stealth capability. (To me it was just equipped with mirrors.) Encouraging the avengers to help protect the earth from hostile invaders was his job. He works for SHIELD.  The Tesseract was first in SHIELD's possession before Loki stole it for his own evil purpose.

If you have not watched the movie, well you should. It's really great. I would watch it again if time permits. I give it 5 stars.
